Spigelia marilandica, Indian Pink

PS-Shade, Zone 5, Blooms Late May-July, Med moisture

Indian Pink is an easy-to-grow native woodland perennial which prefers moist and well-drained soils. The unusual blooms are trumpet shaped with a red exterior, yellow inside, and a unique flare at the top that forms a star shape. This woodland plant has glossy green foliage and spreads easily. Growing in part sun to full shade, it can be planted along the wood edge or in a shaded garden

But although it is typically found in part shade to shade settings, ike most natives, it will also adapt to sunnier spots. One of the interesting things about Indian Pink is its bloom time starting in May-June coincides with the return of its chief pollinator - hummingbirds! We planted three last season and are excited to see what transpires this season.

Attract mostly butterflies and is a favorite plant for hummingbirds.
