Astrantia major, Masterwort, Quart pot. Mix of colors

PS Zone 4, blooms June thru the summer 12” × 18-24”, medium - wet, deer resistant

We have grown Astrantia for many seasons as part of our cut flower business. We get questions about this perennial and where to purchase it. We have only seen it available by buying bare roots via online.

This is a terrific, well behaved perennial. It forms a clump over a few years. We have not seen any volunteers. It is native to Europe and enjoys a partial woodland setting with rich but also well drained soil.

The flowers are dome shaped, and resemble a pin cushion. They are surrounded by a collar formed by bracts. The stems are straight and somewhat wirey. They start blooming in June for cuts/ The blooms stay looking good for most of the summer in the garden. You may not feel they are suitable for the vase in later summer months, but they stll look good in the garden. A good dry flower.

Photos show our original stock and are different colors than the two varieties offered here. Colors range from dark pink, light pink and white.
