Ranunculus are in the Buttercup Family and are native to Central Asia. They are a cool weather plant that does well in spring. We sprout our Ranunculus corms in Oct/Nov and plant them in our hoophouse. The soil temperatures never go below 40 degrees in the hoophouse, and they continue to grow and set strong roots all winter. They are usually done blooming by the end of May. We wait a bit, dig up the corms and store them for fall planting! They are truly a treasure of a cut flower that has long vase life.
