Tulips are one of the most familiar and popular spring beauties! Originally from Turkey, where the winters are harsh, they were bred successfully by Dutch botanists. We often buy tulip bulbs from Vandenburg Hort. located in Howell, MI. A few years ago our bulb delivery was made by the grandson of the founder. He relayed a story about his grandfather, during WW2. The territory was occupied by the Nazis and he was forced to use his land to grow food for the German arm. He kept a small plot in defiance to sustain his tulip bulb crops. It couldn’t have been easy!

Did you know that tulip bulbs were actually eaten during the Great War as many people were starving!

Tulips actually continue to grow, up to 6” in the vase!

Tulips are curvy! Some varieties more than others. If this bothers you, keep cutting the stems.

Tulips may start as one color but as they age in the vase, the color develops and changes.
