Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, Aromatic Aster
FS, Zone 3, blooms August-October, 2-3’ x 1.5-2’, medium dry to dry
Grown by rhizomes, but does not spread aggressively. Develops smooth feeling leaves, unlike most asters which have hairy leaves. Grows on dark blue stems, sometimes called Smooth Blue aster.
Attracts all late season pollinators,native bees, honey bees, butterflies, provides late season food for pollinators and a gorgeous display for humans.
