If this is your first time ordering Native Plants from Detroit Abloom, this is how the process works. We open the webstore in February for pre orders. By the end of May we have all of our stock and we can determine when pickups will start. This is usually in late May. At that time all preorders receive an email that includes a scheduling calendar link. This link provides a description of the pickup process. Pickups are at our hoophouse located at 305 Newport St. Orders have a small construction flag containing the numbers. Come anytime after 10 am on your scheduled day.

Where does our plant stock come from? We grow many plants from seed and also propagate seedlings from existing, mature stands in our gardens. Generally, we purchase plugs from Wild Type Nursery in Mason, Michigan, and bare-rooted trees and shrubs from Cold Stream Farms in Free Soil, Michigan. We also purchase native bare rootstock and plants from Walters Gardens in Zeeland, Michigan. Prairie Moon Nursery and Prairie Nursery. The plants from Wild Type are grown in deep plugs. We pot them up in quart pots. You can be assured these plants will have strong deep roots 6-8” as opposed to the smaller starts grown in 2 - 2.5” pots.

We have added new shrubs, butterfly host plants, and perennials to our stock, some of which are suited for wetter and shadier conditions. You will find the plants in this order - Perennials, Grasses, Shrubs, and Annuals. We have added a search option by category to make it easier to find specific plants. This is located right above the plant listing.

The plants in our store are listed in alphabetical order by genus. Check out our special lists for Wet Conditions and Full Shade in the buttons below!
